1971 – Triumph Stag

The Triumph Stag appeared on the market in 1970.

The Stag was not a successor to the Triumph TR series, but a completely new development in response to changes in the important North American market.

Like the Triumph TR 4, the Spitfire, and many other Triumphs, the Stag was designed by Triumph's “in-house designer,” the Italian Giovanni Michelotti…

Since the late 1960s, an alarm over safety had arisen in the United States, putting classic roadsters into question, and Triumph was forced to find a response to continue selling cars in the U.S.

The Stag was conceived as a large, luxurious 2+2 touring convertible, with a safety roll bar and a fully padded interior with safety seats.

Moreover, the Stag was equipped with a Triumph three-liter V8 engine and standard power steering; it was also equipped with independent suspension and power-assisted brakes.
